What we measure

Smaller pages load faster, especially on mobile networks. Aim for under 1.5MB total for a typical homepage.

How to improve your score

Compress images (WebP/AVIF), remove unused JS and CSS, defer third-party scripts, and audit large fonts or videos.

Implementation notes

Already in the PSI payload as `psi_total_byte_weight` — just expose it as a scored field.

Scoring

Scoring formulas are versioned with the methodology. The current method (v1.1.0) maps raw measurements to pass, warn, fail. Factor weights determine how much each contributes to the composite — see the methodology index for the full table.
